IAKOVOS KAMPANELLI MUSEUM
ABOUT US
In the summer of 2016, the Iakovos Kampanellis Theater Museum opened its gates to the public, in the birthplace of the great theatrical writer, Naxos. The Museum is housed in a municipal stone building, which was initially used as a slaughterhouse, then converted and used as a children’s library. It is located on the beach of Grotta, an area where Iakovos Kampanellis was born and raised.
The museum exhibits relate to personal belongings of the author, which were donated by his daughter Katerina Kampanelli. These are archival material, furniture (office and library of I. Kampanellis), two gowns from the Universities of Cyprus (1996) and Thessaloniki (1999), where he was awarded an honorary doctorate, insignians by the Academy of Athens and his award by the President of the Hellenic Republic , medals and honorary plaques, posters, models and schedules of performances,
microsculpture works of the author, portraits, sketches etc ..
The Theater Museum has become a center of theater and culture, as it promotes the work of the great author and the work of other contemporary Greek writers in Greece and abroad and hosts dozens of activities. Visitors have the opportunity to watch screenings of digitized interviews of I. Kampanellis, films in which he directed or wrote the screenplay, to study all his works as well as their translations. Theatrical workshops for children and adults, creative theatrical writing workshops, book presentations,
lectures and concerts are organized, films written in a script or directed by Iakovos Kampanellis, etc. are organized in the Museum.
